After recently celebrating our tenth anniversary at the Blue Room, the Big Apple Bears have received the sad news that the owners have lost their lease. The Blue Room will close for good on the 10th of November. It is understood that the (in)famous Subway Inn dive bar, who had been fighting eviction from their location of 77 years just a few blocks along 60th Street, have signed a long term lease on the current Blue Room space. The Subway Inn will begin renovations, looking to move in early next year.
The owners of the Blue Room have informed us that they are looking for a new location in the vicinity to relocate to. In the meantime, they have offered the Big Apple Bears a home at their other location, American Bar (formerly known as American Trash). It's located about a mile uptown from the Blue Room, at 1st Ave and 77th Street. While its a bit more off the beaten track for visitors, we believe this is the best option at least until the end of the season. Ellen, our usual bartender at the Blue Room, is pencilled to work the Rangers games. If you are curious as to what the new bar looks like, here is a link to the Google Maps "look inside" rendering.
We are going to start working on the logistics in order to make the transition as smooth as possible. The last game at the Blue Room is likely to be the Falkirk game on the 8th of November.
